Demon trap

If you can read this you are a nerd and also probably dead.

A Demon trap is a magic device that Nightingale compared to a magical landmine. They contain the soul of a living being who has been tortured and their soul trapped at the point of death. They can have a number of effects ranging from psychological damage to more explosive damage or both.

Origin[]

Nightingale states that the Vikings developed the technology to protect their longhouses during the long winters, but that the Nazi's perfected the technique using prisoners as subjects.

Appearances[]

  1. Varvara Sidorovna is known to have manufactured demon traps/dog batteries for the Faceless Man mark 2 containing the souls of dogs.[1]
  2. An demon trap of German design was found at The Strip Club of Doctor Moreau. It contained the soul of Larry the Lark and dissipated by Nightingale.[2]
  3. A trap was found in Albert Woodville-Gentle's flat at the Barbican Estate. It was set to trigger at any use of magic and was dissipated by Nightingale.[3]
  4. The first Drinking bell at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry was considered an Improvised Demonic Device (IDD) as it had a soul trapped within in much the same was as a Demon trap.[4]

Technology[]

Demon Traps contain the soul of a living being who has been tortured--creating the 'Demon'--and their soul trapped at the point of death in a type of enchantment.[3]

Disarmament and Dissipation[]

Demon traps, like landmines, can be set of inadvertently if handled casually. The best course of action is to use green wood, preferably a sapling, to handle the trap or find the edges of the trap.[1] Green wood is likely used because it is magically inert. Wood, especially fresh wood, is bad at containing magic or vestigia.[1] Once found the trap can be channelled into a surrounding material such as concrete in a type of controlled explosion. This decreases the unpleasant physical and psychological effects of the device, although Leslie and Peter both experienced a strong effect. When triggered at full power such as the demon trap went in the Barbican Estate the shock wave was very strong and could be felt at least 6 kilometers away at the Goblin market in Brixton.[3]

The Faceless Man used the same enchantment technology to develop the Dog Battery.[1]
