Elsie “Hatbox” Winstanley is the 'specialist collection manager' librarian at the British Library. She knew Rose Grant in Freetown and attended Peter's christening.
Said to have travelled down the Amazon River in a hatbox, swam the English Channel wearing nothing but goosefat, and ran a Library in Kolwezi until forcibly evacuated by the French Foreign Legion.
She assisted Peter Grant and Harold Postmartin when they investigated a possible poltergeist in the stacks of the British Library.[1]
